Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) has became a powerhouse in rugby during the 1960s and still has one of the best rugby school teams in the nation. MCKK Team used the nickname “All-Blacks” after the New Zealand national team for its all black strip, they perform the haka before matches.

Cobratasha is the rugby team of Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman Ipoh, (STAR, Ipoh). STAR is an all-boys fully residential school in Malaysia funded by the Government of Malaysia. Named after the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of the Federation of Malaya, Almarhum Seri Paduka Baginda Tuanku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuanku Muhammad, it is located in Ipoh, Perak.

Rugby is the most popular sports among SDARIAN other than football and hockey.In 1998, the school rugby team SDAR Lions won the National Premier Schools Rugby Championship. The SDAR Lions was also featured in the final of 1999 and 2001 seasons.

A number of SDARIANs were also selected to play in the Malaysian Rugby National team.Just before moving to the new campus in Seremban, the school’s rugby team won the Perak state title and went on the win the prestigious MORI Cup in 1971.

SDAR also won the Negeri Sembilan school rugby championship and became the only school to win the title in two different states.

The school also organized an annual rugby game with King’s College Thailand since 1973 which has become a tradition for both schools.

Rugby has always been one of the pillars of SM Sains Selangor (SMSS). The game was officially established in 1974 with the arrival of a mathematics teacher from Scotland, Ian F Gordon.

He, single-handedly, started the rugby tradition of which paved the way to fame for our school. His foresight and contribution in founding the tradition of rugby saw the rise of our “little dragon”, achieving accolades after accolades, championships after championships and a few near misses!

The motto, “PAIN IS TEMPORARY, GLORY IS FOREVER” aptly describes the rugby legacy that not only lives on today but also thrives on with our students making forays into national and international arena, year after year.

The Alumni also hold several influential and important positions in the Malaysia Rugby Union. Ode to SMSS Rugby Team!

Zealord SEMASHUR Rugby Team was established in 2001. The name ZEALORD was taken after the word ‘zealous’ and ‘lord’ which conveys the meaning of being a “Master of Enthusiastic” and the name here corresponds to the game that are being played which is rugby.

In addition, the enthusiasm here means the eagerness to win in every game played and the never ending spirit of playing rugby with passion.

Zealord SEMASHUR Rugby’s mission is to expand the potential, talents and skills of the students interested in rugby to the uttermost level parallel with the objective of making rugby as a core sport in SEMASHUR.

Moreover, Zealord SEMASHUR Rugby team had never walk out of a tournament empty-handed as Zealord SEMASHUR are amongst the team feared by other teams and always show interesting plays in every matches played.
